Goal 2: Zero Hunger

Our belief in sport as a catalyst makes us approach this topic by highlighting the trickle down effect that sport has to improve the quality of life for even the most marginalized communities.

Our Why statement already alludes to this and we’ve previously written “Jersey Sponsor exists to facilitate and amplify the opportunities that sports provide on a global scale” and we must acknowledge the importance of food as the fuel that powers our bodies.

The UN already recognizes the power of sport in the fight to Zero Hunger:

Sport and recreational activities provide a release for people struggling with day-to-day challenges, allowing them to take their minds off of what they are facing. A sense of pride can be felt when a country that is facing hunger, food insecurity or other turmoil comes together to support its athletes and team. This creates a common voice and a common denominator for the country, which can transform into a global common denominator.”  https://www.un.org/en/chronicle/article/using-sport-end-hunger-and-achieve-food-security

Sport also gives us a stage and has created a unifying system worthy of sponsorships and fundraisers.  Sport draws in audiences that can be used to bring awareness, and creates platforms and stages for athletes that are uniquely powerful and a driving force in social change around the world.

Fundraisers are an essential component of sports and especially critical in supporting amateur athletes.  These fundraisers are a lifeline in providing resources to athletes and their teams and these resources are important in extending and amplifying their opportunities during the critical and short windows of our youth.

A common theme of Jersey Sponsor athletes is the passion that our community of athletes have shared in their dreams.  Many include doing something good in the world, giving back to the community, and using their position to uplift other athletes and creating opportunities to help others better their lives.

Sport creates leaders, and by empowering athletes and being the prime catalyst for change globally, sport is at the heart of being the conduit for raising awareness and bringing actual change for global issues like alleviating hunger around the world.

Understanding our Jersey Sponsor community of athletes, we’re able to conclude that by empowering athletes, giving them the tools to support each other and important issues, and the power to activate fundraisers at their fingertips that even if only in a trickle down manner, the positive and impactful nature of the activities of our community of athletes will have a a contributing force in bringing zero hunger.
